My name is Veronica Arquilevich Guzman and I started my ceramics and paint business “Maya Ceramics and Paintings" years ago when I was living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I moved to Portland a few years ago after living in China, Vietnam, India and Malaysia. I am originally from Mexico, and represent that in my art.
I create one-of-a-kind ceramic pieces. I make them on the wheel or use a slab, then transform them into animals, nature-inspired pieces, or Mexican-inspired pieces. My latest collection is inspired by sacred hearts and spiritual animals/alebrijes. These elements of the Mexican culture are a combination of fantasy and reality, a popular part of magical realism. With my pieces I try to represent Mexican traditions combined with modern elements, transforming them into contemporary art.
