Alberta Street Gallery Policy on AI-Generated
and AI-Assisted Artwork

Purpose
Alberta Street Gallery is dedicated to showcasing authentic, human-made art that reflects the creativity and craftsmanship of its members. With the emergence of AI tools in creative practice, the gallery seeks to embrace innovation responsibly while upholding artistic integrity.

Definitions
- AI-Generated Art
Artwork primarily created by an AI system with minimal human direction or authorship (e.g., text-to-image generation).

- AI-Assisted Art
Artwork in which an artist uses AI as one tool within a larger creative process. The artist remains the primary author, guiding composition, concept, and execution.

Exhibition Eligibility
- AI-Generated Art
Works that are substantially or fully generated by AI are not eligible for exhibition, sale, or competition under the Alberta Street Gallery name.

- AI-Assisted Art
Works that use AI tools as part of a human-led creative process may be accepted, provided the artist’s input clearly predominates. Artists must be able to describe how AI was used and demonstrate substantial creative control.

Disclosure
Artists must disclose if AI was used in any part of the creation process. Submissions including AI should include a note such as: “This work includes AI-assisted elements as part of the artist’s creative process.”
The gallery reserves the right to request clarification or documentation when needed.

Acceptable Uses of AI
AI tools may be used for:
- Idea generation, composition studies, or mood boards.
- Technical refinement (color correction, upscaling, cleanup).
- Texture, pattern, or background creation incorporated into original work.
- Collage or mixed-media projects where AI outputs are transformed by hand or digital manipulation.
- Accessibility or documentation support (captions, transcripts, formatting).

Review
This policy will be reviewed annually by the Alberta Street Gallery Board to reflect changes in technology and artistic standards.

Guiding Principle
AI may assist—but not replace—the artist. All artwork shown at Alberta Street Gallery must be fundamentally human-authored, guided by individual vision, intention, and skill.
