Fabricating botanicals by hand, primarily from sterling silver sheet and wire, Olia’s more elaborate pieces are meant to capture the imagination of the viewer and wearer. Her inspiration is botanicals found in the Pacific Northwest and artistic eras past. Often balancing the desire to honor nature and draw on a a range of past artistic eras (Edwardian, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, etc), Olia’s goal is to capture the essence of botanicals within modern antique design by coming up with original and playful takes on the past (and integrating her hand-fabricated botanicals). This balance can be extremely challenging when working with three-dimensional botanical pieces; both form and function are essential, to make the piece wearable art.
Though she enjoys the challenge of contemporizing historical art design in her jewelry, simpler pieces which feature the botanical alone are some of her most popular designs. Versatile designs- such as her stud/botanical earrings (two-for-ones), which permit the person to wear the stone studs with or without a botanical attached, with the botanical in front of behind the ear, with an ear wire, or with another pair of studs- has been one of her best sellers.
She occasionally works in brass or mixed metals (sterling/brass, but rarely copper). ASG is the only gallery that Olia’s work is currently displayed.
