A Summer's Song gathers eight local women artist in a lush, sunlit chorus drawn from the natural world. In Bekah Zeimetz's and Jessica Bernert's work, birds chatter through warm air and bees drift through wild bloom. Jeni Lee's trees whisper in leaf and shade. The vibrant expressions from Amy Drews to a calming presence from Erica Gibson – each sound translated into color, texture, and movement. Fur, feather, petal, tide, and branch become a language, humming and rustling across each work. Together, these pieces invite you to wander and listen, to hear the season as it sings itself into being. This exhibition is curated by Alberta Street Gallery member artist Heather Lee Kolbo. |

Art Quilts & Mosaic Jewelry

This show in the windows of Alberta Street Gallery reunites jeweler June Martin and fiber artist Alycia Allen Tolmach. Landscape art quilts created out of Japanese kimono silks provide a rich setting for miniature mosaic jewelry featuring Moroccan ceramic tile, Italian glass, turquoise, slate, coral, and chrysocolla.

June finds joy in creating intricate patterns in small spaces, using an array of tools such as tweezers, picks, nippers, and rubbing stones.
Piece by piece, the materials undergo a metamorphosis, resulting in one-of-a-kind jewelry that is so much more than a sum of its (tiny) parts. June's work is a nod to traditional micro-mosaic, albeit with a modern twist.

Alycia Allen Tolmach
Alycia transforms fluid silks into romantic landscape art quilts, creating mountains whose flanks glow with the ancient weaves and luscious colors of traditional Japanese kimonos.
Marrying beautiful fabrics in unexpected ways, she creates lyrical landscapes from the everyday woman in long ago Japan. |
With unique fabrics from Japan, and stone and tile from far-flung places, June and Alycia create a world of rich colors and exotic textures – from mountainsides to tiny mosaic masterpieces – in short, a world of Stitch and Stones.

Carisa Miller's clay practice is craft-centric, material driven, and rooted in simplicity, Her pots are an expression of the natural world embodied as intimate and essential companions. Pit fired pottery, lovingly created by her hands. Variations are natural and endearing.

Ilse Coffman's primitive ink on paper artworks depict the familiar in a fresh way. Working in drawing, painting and collage, Ilse's aesthetic is simple and raw, with flat images inked on wet paper or embossed, cut and collaged on wood. Tribal pattern, both inspired and imagined often fill a painting while the subjects of still life and figures in repose seem to invite you into their story.

Dan Bernard's black & white photographs capture the ebb and flow of the Oregon coastline. While Dan also experiments with color and digital techniques, he has built a substantial body of work in black & white photography, capturing his observations of the natural world, including the Oregon coast.
