LULA Pottery is Carisa Miller and a flock of chickens in a backyard garden pottery studio in Portland, Oregon U.S. since November 2018.
“My clay practice is craft-centric, material driven, rooted in simplicity, and seeks to embody the essence of the natural elements that give it form. The pots are an expression of the literal effects of time on earth embodied as intimate and essential companions.
I throw pots on the wheel predominately, occasionally hand or coil building, and seek to keep forms simple and minimally adorned, focusing on utility and inclined toward organic surface variations representative of the chemical interactions of the materials. I practice a variety of firing methods, utilizing an electric kiln and glazes formulated in-house, and pit firing featuring combustibles from the chicken yard and garden.
